ลักษณะ :

ลำตัวยาว 31 ซม. ปากเรียวยาวสีดำโค้งลงเล็กน้อย สีขนเป็นลายขวางสีดำสลับขาว คล้ายสีของม้าลาย หงอนยาวมากสีน้ำตาลแดง ปลายหงอนสีดำ ปกติขนหงอนนี้จะเอนราบไปกับหัว แต่เวลาตื่นเต้นจะคลี่ออกคล้ายพัด ขนด้านท้องสีครีม

เขตแพร่กระจาย :

อาฟริกา ยุโรป อินเดีย จีน ไต้หวัน สุมาตรา บอร์เนียว และเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้

ที่อยู่อาศัย :

ป่าเต็งรัง ป่าดิบแล้ง ป่าละเมาะ และพื้นที่เกษตรกรรม

อุปนิสัย :

ไต่ต้นไม้หากินเหมือนนกหัวขวาน หรือเดินหากินไปตามพื้นป่า กินแมลงและสัตว์ มีกระดูกสันหลังขนาดเล็ก ผสมพันธุ์ระหว่างเดือนมีนาคม-มิถุนายน ทำรังอยู่ในโพรงไม้ โพรงดิน วางไข่ครั้งละ 5-7 ฟอง

สถานภาพ :

นกประจำถิ่น พบบ่อย หากินอยู่ตามป่าหญ้าเพ็กในป่าเต็งรัง

Characteristics :

Size 31 cm. Readily identified by having a slender downly-curved bill and black and white plumage. Its crest is exceptionally long, reddish brown and black-tipped; all feathers usually lie flat and drooping from its head, when being excited, they will be fanned up on the head.

Distribution :

Africa, Europe, India, China, Taiwan, Sumatra, Borneo and SE Asia.

Habitat :

Dipterocarp forest, dry evergreen forest, scrub forest and some agricultural areas.

Habit :

Usually observed either climbing up the tree trunk in a woodpecker style or foraging on the forest floor. Its preferred diet is composed of insects and small vertebrates. Breeding time falls between March-June; constructing its nest in a tree cavity or an earthen burrow; in which a normal clutch of 5-7 eggs will be laid.

Status :

A common resident. Mostly found seeking for food among the dwarf bamboo thickets in the dipterocarp forest.

เขตแพร่กระจาย :

อินเดีย จีน ไหหลำ หมู่เกาะอันดามัน หมู่เกาะนิโคบาร์ หมู่เกาะซุนดา ฟิลิปปินส์ นิวกินี ในประเทศไทยพบได้ทุกภาค

ที่อยู่อาศัย :

ป่าเต็งรัง ป่าดิบแล้ง ริมฝั่งน้ำ

อุปนิสัย :

ชอบอยู่โดดเดี่ยวหรือเป็นคู่ เกาะอยู่ในที่โล่ง บนสายไฟ หรือกิ่งไม้แห้ง หากินเป็นกลุ่มเล็ก ๆ ไล่จับแมลงกินในอากาศ ผสมพันธุ์ในช่วงฤดูแล้ง สร้างรังโดยการขุดรูอยู่ริมฝั่งน้ำ วางไข่ครั้งละ 4-5 ฟอง ระยะฟักไข่ 12-14 วัน

สถานภาพ :

นกประจำถิ่น และนกอพยพ พบน้อย

Characteristic :

Size 30 cm. A slender-bodied green bird. Its head and back are dark green, paler green on belly; rump and tail are bluish green. Tail of adult with elongated central tail feathers extending out 6-7 cm more. Throat is yellow and traversed by a reddish brown breast band. Bill long, slender and black in colour. A dark band runs from the base of the bill, passing an eye to ear region.

Distribution :

India, China, Hainan, the Andamans, the Nicobars, the Sundas, the Philippines and New Guinea. In Thailand, it distributes throughout the country.

Habitat :

Dipterocarp forest, dry evergreen forest and along streams.

Habit :

Commonly found as a single individual or in pairs perching on exposed spots such as on electric cables or dry branches. This bird prefers to hawk for insect preys in small group. Breeding takes place in the dry season by tunnelling into a steep bank, in which 4 -5 eggs are laid. The incubation time lasts 12-14 days.

Status :

A rarely encountered resident and migrant.

ที่อยู่อาศัย :

ป่าเต็งรัง ป่าดิบแล้ง ป่ารุ่น พื้นที่เกษตรกรรม

อุปนิสัย :

ชอบอยู่ใกล้แหล่งน้ำ เกาะอยู่ตามกิ่งไม้โล่ง ๆ หรือสายไฟเพื่อมองหาเหยื่อ กินแมลง สัตว์น้ำ และสัตว์เลื้อยคลานขนาดเล็ก ทำรังในช่วงฤดูร้อนโดยการขุดรูตามริมตลิ่งที่สูงชัน บางครั้งทำรังอยู่ตามโพรงไม้ วางไข่ครั้งละ 4-6 ฟอง

สถานภาพ :

นกประจำถิ่น พบไม่บ่อยนัก ได้ยินเสียงร้อง และพบบ้างตามริมลำธาร

Characteristics :

Size 28 cm. Easily recognized by a large bright red bill. Upperpart is bright blue; while head, neck, shoulder and belly are reddish brown. Distinctive white patch on throat and upper breast. Legs and feet are bright red.

Distribution :

Middle East, southern China, Hainan, Taiwan, the Philippines, the Andamans, SE Asia.

Habitat :

Dipterocarp forest, dry evergreen forest, secondary growth and some agricultural areas.

Habit :

Keeps close to the water bodies. Seen perching on exposed branches and electric cables, watching for moving prey species, such as large insects, amphibians and small reptiles. Nesting is done in the dry season by tunnelling into steep banks, sometimes in a tree cavity, depositing an usual clutch of 4-6 eggs.

Status :

An uncommon resident. Its distinctive scream is more often heard. It has been observed, now and then, along the stream.

ลำตัวยาว 29 ซม. รูปร่างอ้วน ป้อม ขนด้านหลังสีน้ำตาล ด้านท้องสีชมพูเรื่อ ๆ ทั้งด้านหลังและท้องมีจุดเล็ก ๆ สีน้ำตาลเข้มและขาวกระจายอยู่ทั่วไป วงหน้าเป็นรูปหัวใจสีชมพูอ่อน เหนือตามีขนตั้งขึ้นไปคล้ายหู ดวงตากลมโตสีน้ำตาลเข้ม ขามีขนคลุมตลอดทั้งขา นิ้วยาว เล็บเท้ายาวและงุ้มลง

เขตแพร่กระจาย :

อินเดีย จีน หมู่เกาะซุนดา ฟิลิปปินส์ พม่า มาเลเซีย ไทย อินโดจีน ตังเกี๋ย และลาว

ที่อยู่อาศัย :

ป่าดิบแล้ง ป่าเต็งรัง ป่ารุ่น

อุปนิสัย :

ชอบอยู่ตัวเดียว ออกหากินกลางคืน กลางวันจะเกาะนอนอยู่ตามโพรงไม้หรือตามพุ่มไม้ หากินตามทุ่งโล่ง ทุ่งหญ้า กินนก หนู สัตว์เลื้อยคลานขนาดเล็กและแมลงกลางคืน ทำรังอยู่ในโพรงไม้ วางไข่ครั้งละ 3-4 ฟอง

สถานภาพ :

นกประจำถิ่น พบน้อยมาก

Characteristics :

Size 29 cm. A plump-looking brown owl, with brown upperpart and pinkish brown underpart. Both sides are heavily spotted with dark brown and pale pattern that scattering widely over the surfaces. Its heart-shaped facial disc is more pinkish, with a pair of large brown eyes. A pair of its ear-like tufted feathers stand erect above its eyes. Legs and feet are thickly covered with feathers, and the latter forming sharp talons.

Distribution :

India, China, the Sundas, the Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Indo-China, Tonkin and Laos.

Habitat :

Dry evergreen forest, dipterocarp forest and secondary growth.

Habit :

Usually living a solitary life and being a nocturnal hunter. In the daytime it roosts in a hollow tree or in a thick foliage. Hunting is done above open ground, grassfield, where its preferred diet such as sleeping birds, rodents, small reptiles and night-active insects can be found. Nesting in a tree hollow and a clutch of 3-4 white eggs will be laid.

Status :

A very scarce resident.

ลักษณะ :

นกขนาดใหญ่ลำตัวยาว 70 ซม. หลังและปีกสีเทา หัว คอ อก และหางสีดำเหลือบม่วง ปาก ขา และเท้าสีแดงสด มีแผ่นหนังรอบดวงตาสีม่วง ท้องสีขาว

เขตแพร่กระจาย :

เป็นนกที่พบเฉพาะถิ่น พบในไทย และอินโดจีน จากพื้นราบจนถึงระดับความสูง 900 เมตร

ที่อยู่อาศัย :

ป่าหญ้ารก ในป่าดิบแล้ง

อุปนิสัย :

เดินหากินบนพื้นดิน ชอบซ่อนตัวอยู่ตามกอหญ้า กินลูกไม้ เมล็ดพืช แมลงและสัตว์ขนาดเล็ก ผสมพันธุ์ระหว่างเดือนกุมภาพันธ์-มิถุนายน

สถานภาพ:

เป็นนกที่ใกล้จะสูญพันธุ์ของประเทศไทย และของสะแกราช แต่ยังพบได้บ้างในเขตป่าอนุรักษ์บางแห่ง ในจังหวัดนครราชสีมา ฉะเชิงเทรา เพชรบูรณ์ พิษณุโลก น่าน และจันทบุรี

Characteristics :

Size 70 cm. A large ground-living bird with greyish back and wings and violet-glossed black head, neck, breast and tail; bill, legs and feet bright red; underpart whitish. A distinctive violet eye patch is usually noticed, at close range.

Distribution :

Endemic to Thailand and Indo-China, where it thrives on the plain to low hills of 900 m in elevation.

Habitat :

Among thick undergrowth in the dry evergreen forest.

Habit :

Foraging on the forest floor for fallen fruits, seeds, insects and small animals. Hiding quietly among thick tussocks of tall grasses. Breeds between February-June.

Status :

Being an endangered bird species of Thailand and Sakaerat area. Can still be found in low densities in some protected areas in Nakhon Ratchasima, Chachoengsao, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Nan and Chanthaburi.

ลักษณะ : นกแก้วขนาดเล็ก ลำตัวยาว 14 ซม. หางสั้น ขนสีเขียวทั้งตัว ยกเว้นปาก สะโพก และขนคลุมหางซึ่งเป็นสีแดง มีสีน้ำเงินแต้มที่คอ ตัวเมียปากสีซีดกว่าตัวผู้ และ ไม่มีสีน้ำเงินแต้มที่คอ

เขตแพร่กระจาย : อินเดีย จีน พม่า ไทย เวียตนาม หมู่เกาะอันดามันและชวา

ที่อยู่อาศัย : ป่าดิบแล้ง

อุปนิสัย : ชอบอยู่รวมกันเป็นกลุ่มเล็ก ๆ 5-10 ตัว บนต้นไม้ที่มีดอกมีผล กินผลไม้ น้ำหวานดอกไม้ พืชไร่ เช่น ข้าวโพด ข้าวฟ่าง พริก ผสมพันธุ์ระหว่างเดือนมกราคม- มีนาคม ทำรังในโพรงไม้ วางไข่ครั้งละ 3-4 ฟอง

สถานภาพ : นกประจำถิ่น พบน้อย

Characteristics : Size 14 cm. A diminutive green parrot with very short tail. Red patches are present on its bill, rump and upper tail coverts. A male has a distinctive blue neck patch; while a female lacks this neck patch and having paler red bill than that of the male.

Distribution : India, China, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, the Andamans and Java.

Habitat : Dry everygreen forest.

Habit : Keeps in small flock of 5-10 individuals that congregating on fruiting trees. Diet consists of wild fruits, nectar, and seeds of field crops such as maize, sorghum and chilli. Breeds between January-March, they nest in a tree cavity, in which a clutch of 3-4 eggs will be laid.

Status : A less frequently seen resident.

ลำตัวยาว 27 ซม. ขนสีเขียวสด โคนปากสีแดง ปลายปากดูอวบอูมกว่านกเปล้าชนิดอื่น ตัวผู้ต่างจากตัวเมีย คือมีโคนปีกและหลังสีแดงเข้ม ขนคลุมใต้โคนหาง สีส้ม ส่วนนกตัวเมียมีสีเขียวตลอดทั้งตัว

เนปาล จีน ไหหลำ หมู่เกาะซุนดา ฟิลิปปินส์ และเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้

ที่อยู่อาศัย :

ป่าดิบแล้ง ป่าเต็งรัง ป่ารุ่น

อุปนิสัย :

ชอบอยู่เป็นฝูงบนต้นไม้ กินผลไม้ ลูกไม้ ผสมพันธุ์ระหว่างเดือนมกราคม-มีนาคม วางไข่ครั้งละ 2 ฟอง ใช้เวลาฟักไข่ 14 วัน

สถานภาพ :

นกประจำถิ่นที่พบบ่อย เคยพบมากกว่า 300 ตัว บนต้นไทรสุกในป่าดิบแล้งในเดือนกันยายน-ตุลาคม

Characteristics :

Size 27 cm. A plump-looking leafy green pigeon with bill tip much swollen than those of other similar pigeons, also tinted red at base. A male is readily recognized by possessing maroon back and shoulders, and orange-brown under tail coverts; while a female is green throughout the body.

Distribution :

Nepal, China, Hainan, the Greater Sundas, the Philippines and SE Asia.

Habitat :

Dry evergreen forest, dipterocarp forest and secondary growth.

Habit :

Live gregariously in large flocks that move around searching for their favourite diet of wild fruits. Breeding time falls between January-March. Two eggs forming a normal clutch. Parent will incubate the eggs for 14 days.

Status :

A frequently-seen resident. A huge number of more than 300 birds had ever observed congregating on fruiting fig trees in dry evergreen forest in September-October.

ลำตัวยาว 60-82 ซม. ไก่ตัวผู้มีหน้าสีแดงสด มีขนหงอนเป็นกระจุก สีดำเหลือบฟ้า สะโพกเหลือง หางยาวและโค้งลงสีดำอมฟ้า ตัวเมียมีขนาดเล็กกว่า ลำตัวเป็นสี น้ำตาล มีลายขวางสีดำบริเวณปีกและหาง

เขตแพร่กระจาย :

ไทย อินโดจีน

ที่อยู่อาศัย :

ป่าดิบแล้ง และป่ารอยต่อระหว่างป่าดิบแล้งและป่าเต็งรัง ป่าไผ่

อุปนิสัย :

ชอบหากินตามพื้นดิน กินแมลง ปลวก หนอน สัตว์ขนาดเล็ก และลูกไม้สุก ผสมพันธุ์ระหว่างเดือนกุมภาพันธุ์-พฤษภาคม สร้างรังอยู่บนพื้นดิน ใต้พุ่มไม้ กอหญ้า กอไผ่ วางไข่ครั้งละ 5-8 ฟอง

สถานภาพ :

โดยทั่วไปเป็นนกประจำถิ่นที่ค่อนข้างหายาก แต่พบได้บ่อยที่ป่าสะแกราช

Characteristics :

Size 60-82 cm. A cock has a distinctive bright red facial skin, a bushy black crest with bluish sheen; yellowish red rump patch and long, curved black tail. A hen is smaller in size and having brownish body crossed boldily by black pattern on wings and tail.

Distribution :

Thailand and adjoining Indo-China.

Habitat :

Dry evergreen forest and the ecotone between the dry evergreen and the dipterocarp forests, also found living in the bamboo forest.

Habit :

Mainly terrestrial in foraging habit, scratching among leaf litter for insects, termites, worms, small animals and ripe fruits. Breeds between February-May, and nests on the ground, usually hiding under shrubs or between grass tussocks, and in bamboo clumps, in which 5-8 eggs will be laid.

Status :

Generally, a rather scarce resident. Fortunately quite common in Sakaerat area.

ลำตัวยาว 30-36 ซม. นกตัวเมียมีขนาดใหญ่กว่าตัวผู้เล็กน้อย ขนด้านหลังสีน้ำตาล อมเทา แต่ในตัวผู้หลังเป็นสีเทา ขนด้านล่างลำตัวเป็นสีขาว มีลายขวางเล็ก ๆ สี น้ำตาลแดง คางขาว

เขตแพร่กระจาย :

ทวีปอาฟริกา เอเชียตอนใต้ จีนตอนใต้ ไหหลำ หมู่เกาะนิโคบาร์ สุมาตรา และเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ในประเทศไทยพบได้ทั่วไป ยกเว้นตอนใต้สุดของประเทศ

ที่อยู่อาศัย :

ป่าดิบแล้ง ป่าเต็งรัง และป่ารุ่น

อุปนิสัย :

ชอบเกาะอยู่ตามกิ่งไม้สูงเด่น บางครั้งจะบินร่อนในช่วงสั้น ๆ จะพุ่งลงไปจับเหยื่อได้อย่างรวดเร็ว กินแมลง สัตว์มีกระดูกสันหลังขนาดเล็ก เช่น นก หนู และสัตว์เลื้อยคลาน ผสมพันธุ์ระหว่างเดือนมีนาคม-พฤษภาคม วางไข่ครั้งละ 3-5 ฟอง ใช้เวลาฟักไข่ 18-21 วัน

สถานภาพ :

มีทั้งนกประจำถิ่นและนกอพยพ พบไม่บ่อยนัก ส่วนใหญ่พบในป่าเต็งรัง ครั้งละ 1 ตัว

Characteristics :

Size 30-36 cm. Female a little larger than the male, has greyish brown back, whereas it is grey in the male; whitish underpart with fine reddish brown barrrings. Chin white.

Distribution :

Africa, South Asia, Southern China, Hainan, the Nicobars, through SE Asia to Sumatra. In Thailand, widely spread except in the southernmost provinces.

Habitat :

Dry evergreen forest, dipterocarp forest and secondary growth.

Habit :

Prefers exposed perches. Sometimes seen soaring for a short distances, before plunging swiftly to seize preys. Diet comprises large insects, small vertebrates, such as birds, rodents and reptiles. Breeding between March-May, when a clutch of 3-5 eggs will be deposited. The incubation period is 18-21 days.

Status :

Being uncommon, both as a resident and a seasonal migrant. Mostly found singly in the dipterocarp forest.
