

Dr. Pongsathon Phapugrangkul, Deputy Governor of Reasearch and Development for Bio-industries of Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), together with Ms. Kanjana Dummananda, Director of the Office of the Governor, Dr. Boonnanida Sodha, Director of the International Relations Division, Dr. Nasisorn Suksridechacin, Research Officer of Biodiversity Research Centre, and the International Relations Division team, welcomed and held a discussion meeting with Dr. Pasupha Chinvarasopak, Minister Counsellor for Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing, along with a delegation comprising representatives from hospitals and manufacturers of AI-powered medical devices from the People's Republic of China.
The meeting was held on 17 March 2026 at TISTR Technopolis, Pathum Thani, Thailand.
The meeting aimed to exchange information and explore potential research and development collaboration in advanced medical technologies.
Key topics discussed included the establishment of a Stem Cell Joint Laboratory (Stem Cell Joint Lab) and joint research on AI-powered medical devices (AI-powered Medical Device Joint Research). These initiatives are expected to promote the development of knowledge, technologies, and medical innovations, while creating opportunities to further strengthen academic and research collaboration between organizations of the two countries.
On this occasion, TISTR also led the delegation on a visit to the Stem Cell Laboratory at the TISTR’s Innovative Center for Production of Industrially used microorganisms (ICPIM), where participants exchanged views on the future direction of medical technology development and opportunities for expanding collaboration. TISTR places strong emphasis on building international networks in science, technology, and innovation in order to support research development and facilitate the practical application of research outcomes.
Notably, TISTR and organizations from the People’s Republic of China have maintained a long-standing and close relationship. Over the years, both sides have collaborated in various fields, including transportation and rail systems, agriculture and biotechnology, engineering and industrial technologies, as well as science and technology innovation development.
This meeting marks another important step in strengthening Thailand–China cooperation and advancing the development of knowledge and innovations that will benefit both countries in the future.
