Korea-ESCAP Cooperation Fund Air Pollution Control: A Multi-stakeholder Consultation Workshop

On 26 October 2023, Dr. Pratip Vongbandit, Deputy Governor of R&D Group for Sustainable Development, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) presided over and delivered welcome remarks at the Korea-ESCAP Cooperation Fund (KECF) Air Pollution Control: A Multi-stakeholder Consultation Workshop, which was jointly organized by TISTR in cooperation with the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) at Maruay Garden Hotel.

This workshop was one of the activities under the project entitled “Enhanced capabilities to adopt innovative technologies for city air pollution control in selected countries of the Asia-Pacific”, which aimed to discuss the outcomes of the assessment studies and develop recommendations to strengthen city-level action plan for the adoption of enabling mechanism for innovative technologies, as well as to share perspectives in terms of air pollution issues, policies, strategy options, technologies, and good practices.

In the workshop, Dr. Suwit Auchariyamet, Director of the Expert Centre of Innovative Industrial Robotics and Automation presented the overview and objectives of the workshop. Importantly, we had the honour from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ekbordin Winijkul, Professor from the School of Environment, Resources, and Development, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and National Consultant of the KECF Air Pollution Control Project to deliver a presentation on “Strengths and challenges of a city-level action plan for adopting technologies for air pollution control in Bangkok”.

The workshop served as a platform for relevant organizations and stakeholders namely Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Pollution Control Department, Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, Automotive Engineering Bureau, Department of Land Transport, Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning, Thai Meteorological Department, Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Office of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Academic Center of Air Pollution Prevention and Management, and King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok to share their perspectives towards air pollution control and management in order to gather information for a report on good practices and recommendations for the adoption of innovative technology to control air pollution at the city level.
