On 28 April 2026, Dr. Kanjana Tuentet and Dr. Nuttapon Vachiraroj, Research Officer from the Biodiversity Research Centre, TISTR, visited Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on 28 April 2026 to discuss research collaboration and review progress in microalgae research, as well as to tour laboratory facilities.

Additionally, they participated in A Regional Focus Group Discussion to Shape Collaborative Research, Policy Advisory & Innovation in Asia titled “Microalgae and Its Biota: Building Strategic Networks and the Asian Algae Roadmap”. The event was hosted by the Microalgae Biota Technology & Innovation Research Group (ALBIC), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) during 29-30 April 2026.
The workshop brought together representatives from across ASEAN, including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, to exchange knowledge and define strategic directions for regional collaboration in microalgae research. A key outcome of the meeting is the development of the “Asian Algae Roadmap,” which will pave the way for joint research initiatives and expanded access to international research funding opportunities.
TISTR maintains strong partnerships with UKM in advancing research and development, knowledge exchange in biofuel and biochemical production, and the application of biomass and microalgae for environmental solutions. Collaboration with UPM also continues to strengthen research on microalgae cultivation, alongside joint organization of the International Conference on Bioprocessing and Biomanufacturing (ICBB).
