Dr. Chutima Eamchotchawalit, Governor of Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), along with Dr. Krittiya Thisayakorn, Director of Expert Centre of Innovative Herbal Products (InnoHerb), Dr. Sarunya Laovitthayanggoon, Senior Researcher of InnoHerb, and Dr. Waraporn Sorndech, Researcher of Expert Centre of Innovative Health Food (InnoFood), had a meeting with the executives and researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) at BRIN, Serpong campus, Indonesia on 3 September 2024.
The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is an organization specializing in research and development with an integration of science, technology, and innovation of Indonesia. During that visit, they also went to the Science & Techno Park BJ Habibie at Serpong campus, a hub for promoting innovation and enhancing Indonesia’s competitiveness in various fields, such as the Food Laboratory, including plant-based food technology, health products, and dietary supplements, as well as laboratories for Nano Material, Energy, Transportation, Nuclear, and Electronic Informatics.
During this occasion, Dr. Krittiya Thisayakorn, Dr. Sarunya Laovitthayanggoon, and Dr. Waraporn Sorndech were the representatives to present on the research and development plans of food production technology from plant protein extracts, the utilization of enzymes and cold plasma for the development of functional proteins, and the production of halal product ingredients. They also discussed on the quality of testing and applying halal technology to various herbal products of TISTR to meet halal standards. Additionally, they also engaged and discussed with BRIN on topics of Future Food and Food Ingredients to explore potential collaborations.
Furthermore, TISTR presented on the research projects on microorganisms, including the culture collection and preservation of biological specimens for industrial, agricultural, and environmental purposes, aimed at sustainable utilization (TISTR Culture Collection). They also introduced plans and projects related to the Indo-Pacific Plastics Innovation Network (IPPIN), focusing on regional plastic waste management in the Indo-Pacific, led by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) and partner countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
