Dr. Pratip Vongbandit, Deputy Governor of Research and Development Group for Sustainable Development presided as Thai Lead, co-leading with Dr. Kenneth Vincent, Director of Office of Asian Affairs, U.S. Department of Energy and Mr. Brandon Wilson, Acting Economic Counselor of U.S. Embassy Bangkok for Working Group Discussion on Energy and Climate Change Mitigation, which was part of the Third Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on Science and Technology during 21 – 22 June 2023 at the Landmark Hotel Bangkok.



During the discussion, there were other Thai and U.S. agencies joining the session and discussing on the next step of research collaboration to further strengthen the partnership and mutual benefits of U.S. and Thailand. For other agencies, the representatives of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC) under National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), accompanying with U.S. agencies, U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Embassy Bangkok presented the overview of their relevant projects and the mutual project interests.
As a result, the working groups has agreed on three priority action items for collaboration;
(1) CCUS workforce development and pipeline corrosion assessment
(2) Energy storage life-cycle analysis and recycling of batteries
(3) Scaling up of bioenergy/biofuel production e.g., biomethanol and sustainable aviation fuel, including regulatory issues.
The working group also agreed to explore ways to better connect and integrate research institutes with net zero planning efforts.
