Dr. Nuttapon Vachiraroj, Research Officer at the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), was invited as a speaker at the Science Summit UNGA80 – Energy Transition Under Pressure: Africa, Innovation & SDG7 on 18 September 2025 at 13:00 EDT (New York time).
As the representative from Thailand and the Asia-Pacific region, Dr. Nuttapon delivered a presentation titled “Microalgae: Turning sunlight into a spectrum of sustainable resources.” His talk emphasized the potential of microalgae to convert solar energy into diverse and sustainable resources, offering innovative pathways to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).
This participation highlights the opportunity for TISTR to strengthen the skills and international exposure of its researchers through its membership in WAITRO, while also representing a significant milestone for Thailand to contribute to a United Nations-level platform on sustainable development.
In addition to Dr. Nuttapon’s presentation, the session featured international experts who shared insights on clean energy innovations, digital and AI technologies for rural development, renewable energy solutions for urban and informal communities, and strategies for advancing SDG7 across African nations.
The event not only served as a platform for knowledge exchange but also strengthened global collaboration networks in addressing shared challenges in energy transition and sustainable development.
