Dr. Jittra Chaivimol, Deputy Governor of Industrial Services at the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), an organization under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), presided over the opening of the seminar titled “Publication of Technical Cooperation for Research and Development and Implementation of Railway Inspection and Monitoring Technology” which was held on 24 September 2024. The event was hosted by TISTR’s Railway Transportation System Testing Centre (RTTC) held at the Maruay Garden Hotel, Bangkok.
This seminar brought together experts and organizations from various countries, including the UK, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Laos, to exchange knowledge and foster regional collaboration. The main objective of this event was to elevate rail safety by developing a platform for railway inspection and monitoring technology that can be shared and utilized across the ASEAN region.
The event featured distinguished speakers and experts who shared their insights on various topics, including:
– Railway Inspection Technology and TWD Technology by Dr. Anat Hasap, Director of RTTC, and his team.
– Dynamic Behavior and Monitoring Technology for the Safety of Train Structures by Prof. John Roberts, Chairman of KU-Rail at Kasetsart University.
– Inspection and Monitoring Research in Earthquake in China by Prof. Zhong Tao, Faculty of Civil Engineering Mechanics, Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST).
– Rail Noise and Vibration, Mechanisms and Means of Controls for Prediction by Dr. Sorawit Limthongkul, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kasetsart University.
– Monitoring and Seismic Retrofit of Reinforced Concrete Buildings to Resistance Future Earthquakes for Sustainable Cities by Assist. Prof. Dr. Panumas Sairngam, Department of Civil Engineering, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.
– Enabling Integrated Measurement and Control Solutions for Railway by Garry Tjhin, Axiometrix Solution.
The RTTC has received funding for the “Technical Cooperation for Research and Development and Implementation of Railway Inspection and Monitoring Technology” project from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA). This project aims to create a self-reliant and sustainable railway system by collaborating with partners in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia to address the challenges of sustainable rail technology development.
TISTR’s RTTC is honored to be the first organization in Thailand to receive research funding from UNDP, aimed at advancing modern railway inspection technology, which will further support ASEAN countries in adopting cutting-edge rail systems.
