On 26 April, 2024, Dr.Pratip Vongbandit, Deputy Governor of Research and Development Group for Sustainable Development, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) along with Dr. Suwit Auchariyamet, Director of Expert Centre of Innovative Industrial Robotics and Automation (InnoRobot), and Dr. Rewadee Anuwattana, Research Expert from the Expert Centre of Innovative Clean Energy and Environment (InnoEn) of TISTR led a delegation of participants from the “Workshop on Sustainable Municipal Solid Waste Management within the Circular Economy Concept” to visit the Tandiao Municipal Solid Waste Management Demonstration Plant or “Tan Diao Model” located in Tan Diao Subdistrict, Kaeng Khoi District, Saraburi Province.

With expertise and knowledge in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) of the two expert centres of TISTR, namely the Expert Centre of Innovative Clean Energy and Environment (InnoEn) and Expert Centre of Innovative Industrial Robotics and Automation (InnoRobot), this project is a successful demonstration pilot plant designed to implement STI to transform waste to clean renewable energy and waste to value added products. Its aims include creating job opportunities and mitigating the negative impacts of the climate change crisis, such as reducing carbon dioxide and methane emissions.

During the program, following the pilot plant visit, they had a visitation at the Hua Plee Market, an agricultural community market model with an insightful lecture on community operations conducted by Mr. Paiboon Buranasanti, Inspector General of the Department of Community Development on how leftover resources are utilized and the showcase of how revenue-generating activities can benefit the community.

This aforementioned activity is part of an event organized through collaboration between TISTR, the Office of the Permanent Secretary of MHESI, and APCTT. This workshop event has attracted participants from various countries such as India, Bangladesh, Nepal, China and Russia, making it another opportunity to disseminate knowledge and technology in municipal solid waste management, enhance STI capabilities among APCTT members countries and serve as a platform for building sustainable cooperation networks in community waste management.
