TISTR’s STI Infrastructures

As one of key research agencies under Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) – Thailand, TISTR leverage science, technology and innovation (STI) to empower Thai entrepreneurs, enterprises and farmers, by ensuring their equal access to STI infrastructures and fostering their professional capacity building, TISTR drives sustainable economic growth across local, regional and national levels. TISTR’s STI expertise in three main areas: (1) R&D bio-industry including agriculture, healthy food, herbal products and biotechnology; (2) R&D sustainable development including materials, clean energy, environment, robotics and automatic machinery; and (3) industrial service including analytical and testing services, product inspection, instrument and equipment calibration, and proficiency testing. Presently, TISTR’s STI infrastructures include:

(1) Innovation Center for Production of Industrially used Microorganism (ICPIM-1), which provides microbial inoculant for industrial applications, complying with GHP, ISO/IEC 17025 standards. As a leading international center for R&D production in health food products from probiotic and prebiotic, it maintains over 50 probiotic strains, and provides property testing for probiotic and prebiotic, functional testing for microorganisms and bio-substances (in vitro and cell culture), and genetic toxicity testing, with OECD GLP standards.

(2) Innovation Center for Production of Industrially used Microorganism (ICPIM-2), which provides a standardized pilot plant with quality control production systems for microbial inoculant used as agricultural bioproducts, with two production lines: bacteria and fungi, and production capacity of 115,000 liters per year. It provides microbial solutions used for crop productions, including biocontrol agents (biopesticides) and biofertilizer, and microbial solutions used for fisheries and livestock, in three formulations: powder, liquid and pure cultures.

(3) Food Innovation Service Plant (FISP), which provides comprehensive production service with GMP certification for food and beverage manufacturers. The scope of its services includes packaged beverage production, vacuum-fired food production, freeze-dried food production, UHT beverage production, glass-bottled beverage production, retort food production, accelerated food shelf-life assessment, nutritional value analysis, and HPP testing.

(4) Algae Excellent Center (ALEC), which provides algal strains culture collection, algal cultivation laboratories, algal R&D and technology transfer to the private sector. The scope of its operations includes: (i) sustainable conservation and utilization of algae resources; (ii) algal R&D and technology transfer to the private sector; and (iii) algal strain services on classification, cell counting, microcystin analysis, and (iv) professional training and consultation services.

(5) Railway Transportation System Testing Center (RTTC), which provides international standard testing and analytical services to enhance local contents, develop specialized personnel, and deliver national railway system solutions, toward creating sustainability in railway transportation. It also collaborates with domestic and international universities, to develop high-speech railway technology transfer curriculums with modern railway testing laboratory infrastructures, and railway engineering training programs for students, faculty and rail manufacturers.

(6) Innovation Cosmetic Service Center (ICOS), which provides high-quality standardized cosmetic manufacturing services based on ASEAN GMP. As a total solution provider, it enhances cosmetic Thai entrepreneurs, community enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and startups, by serving as a key mechanism to drive national economy in alignment with the government’s policies.

(7) Biodegradation Testing Center (BioD), which is the only analytical and testing laboratory in Thailand with TIS 17025-2548 (ISO-IEC17025:2005), providing biodegradation testing services with ISO17088 certified by Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TIS), and TGL-44-22 requirements certified by Thai Green Label under Thailand Environmental Institute (TEI), a member of the Global Ecolabelling Network spanning over 50 countries worldwide. Its laboratory is registered to DIN CERTCO (Germany), and Biodegradable Product Institute (BPI), with EN13432, ISO17088 or ASTM D 6400, for international product certification. Its services can reduce testing costs for Thai businesses by over 50% compared to overseas alternatives, and can provide international environmental labels for Thai manufacturers and distributors to enhance their global market competitiveness.
