On 9 July 2026, Asst. Prof. Dr. Weerachai Arjharn, Governor of TISTR, together with Dr. Rochana Tangkoonboribun, Deputy Governor of the Strategies and Innovation Management; Dr. Pralong Dumrongthai, Program Director of the Strategic Flagship Program \u201cThailand Safe from PM2.5\u201d, National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT); Dr. Piya Parnphumeesup, Director of the Corporate Strategic Planning Office; and the TISTR research team, proudly received the Thailand Sustainability Initiative of the Year \u2013 Agriculture award at the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2026, held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TISTR was nominated by the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) to represent Thailand with its flagship project, \u201cLand Use Transformation Policy for PM2.5 Controlling in Chiang Mai, Nan, and Phrae Provinces,\u201d presented under the title \u201cTransforming Land Use Policy to Combat PM2.5: A Science-Driven Community Innovation Model for Sustainable Agroforestry in Northern Thailand\u201d. The project was recognized for its outstanding contribution to sustainable agricultural development and environmental management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative applies science, technology, and innovation (STI) to promote sustainable agricultural practices while addressing the PM2.5 crisis in Northern Thailand. Its key achievements include promoting agroforestry through mycorrhizal mushroom cultivation to encourage the transition from monocropping to more sustainable land-use practices; supporting organic crop certification to enhance the value of agricultural products and provide farmers with long-term income; and establishing model communities for organic fertilizer production using agricultural residues to transform crop waste into valuable resources and reduce open-field burning, one of the major causes of seasonal air pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
