The Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Weerachai Arjharn, Governor, joined the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between three institutions, along with Yunnan Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security and Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony was held at Zhong Wei Hotel, Kunming, Yunnan Province, People\u2019s Republic of China. (16 May 2025)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this occasion, Asst. Prof. Dr. Weerachai Arjharn signed the MoU on behalf of Thailand, alongside:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Mr. Liu Dianwen, Vice President of Kunming University of Science and Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Ms. Xiong Mei, Deputy Governor of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honourable witnesses included:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Ms. Bhavivarn Noraphallop, Consul-General, Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kunming, China<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Mr. Wang Hua, President of Kunming University of Science and Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signing ceremony was hosted by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, and was attended by senior executives and distinguished guests from both Thailand and China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This MoU aims to enhance bilateral cooperation between two countries in research and development, technology transfer, human resource development, and innovation linkage to industrial sectors. The framework outlines collaboration in four key areas:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Human resource development \u2013 including joint engineer training programs, mutual recognition of engineering qualifications, and a bilateral postdoctoral program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Establishment of the KUST\u2013TISTR International Technology Transfer Center \u2013 as a platform to promote cross-border technology cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Joint scientific research and technology services \u2013 focusing on high-impact areas such as artificial intelligence, railway systems, sensor technology, and battery innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Co-application for international research funding \u2013 including opportunities from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Mekong\u2013Lancang Cooperation, and both Thai and Chinese governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This MoU marks a significant milestone in strengthening strategic cooperation between Thailand and China, with TISTR acting as a key national mechanism in linking science, technology, and innovation with international partners to sustainably enhance Thailand\u2019s technological capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the People\u2019s Republic of China, symbolizing a meaningful moment to deepen friendship and long-term collaboration. In this context, TISTR is actively expanding STI (Science, Technology and Innovation) cooperation with Chinese research and industrial partners \u2014 particularly in functional agriculture, railway technology, and smart mobility, which are high-potential sectors for advancing national competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
