The Meeting on the Project “Modeling Carbon Neutral Pathways in Thailand and Bangkok” with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)

On 8 August 2023, Dr. Pratip Vongbandit, Deputy Governor of Research and Development Group for Sustainable Development welcomed the delegation of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), namely Mr. Zarrar Khan and Ms. Maridee Weber and Ms. Vararat Khemangkorn from the U.S. Embassy Bangkok, along with the delegation of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), Energy Technology Center (ENTEC) under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) through the meeting on the project “Modeling Carbon Neutral Pathways in Thailand and Bangkok” at TISTR Executive Meeting Room, RD-1 Building.

The meeting’s objectives are to delve into various aspects of the project, exchanging ideas, and expertise to pave the way for meaningful progress among the JCM’s working group members.

Throughout the two sides of information exchange, the attendees have agreed on the mutual interests for future collaborations on Bio-methanol, Smart City, Electric, and Energy Efficiency in Buildings. Specifically, U.S. side has proposed the possible joint actions between U.S. and Thai organizations as follows;

  1. Hosting online knowledge sharing sessions for technical information exchange.
  2. Connecting with the U.S. experts and speakers for international conferences in Thailand in the context of sustainable energy.
  3. Connecting with U.S. Foreign Commercial Services for technology exchange.
  4. Connecting with U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) in order to support Thai’s feasibility studies and pilot projects through a U.S. implementer.

After the meeting, all attendees proceeded to the TISTR Biomethanol Laboratory where they observed the Biomethanol production demonstration project receiving assistance from
Dr. Rujira Jitrwung and the team.
