Third Country Training Program (TCTP)

Training Course Title : Promotion and Dissemination of High Quality Biofuels

Production Technology for Automotive Utilization in ASEAN

Background :

The project to produce high quality biofuels from non-food biomass for automotive utilization under SATREPS scheme has been successfully implemented by joint research and development among 3 organizations in Thailand (Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research-TISTR, National Metal and Materials Technology Center-MTEC, and King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok-KMUTNB)

and 2 organizations in Japan (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology-AIST and Waseda University) with spectacular results. These innovative technology and practical standard operation procedure are to be disseminated to other biomass-rich ASEAN countries, which would be very beneficial for their future application of biofuels in transportation and other sectors as well.

This TCTP will be one of the activities supporting MOST-ASEAN action plan (2015-2020) endorsed by Ministry of Science and Technology. Recently during the 69th ASEAN COST Meeting held during 25-28 July 2015 in Phuket, Thailand, this TCTP is recognized as a key driving force to support the project “Set up of ASEAN Network on Biomass Open Research (ANBOR)” endorsed by ASEAN sub-committee on Sustainable

Energy Research (SCSER) under “ASEAN Biofuels Flagship Program”. It is aimed to realize “Low Carbon Society (LCS)” and energy security of ASEAN regions by renewable energy frombiomass.

Overall Goal : To promote and disseminate the outcome of SATREPS Project “Innovation on Production and Automotive Utilization of Biofuels from Non-food Biomass” among ASEAN countries
