ABSTRACT

        = Study on the status of predator and prey in dry dipterocarp forest w= as carried out at Sakaerat Environmental Research Station, Nakhon Ratchasima f= or one year period from December, 1983 to November, 1984. Road side counts were used for census method. Only birds and mammals found along the census routes were recorded. From the results of study, it was found that the total numbe= r of birds and animals was 106 species which was composed of 14 species of preda= tors and 92 species of preys. Both predator and prey were mainly consisted of bi= rds with the number of 12 and 86 species respectively. The mammals were found t= o be predators only 2 species and preys 6 species. The predators and prey were abundant in January with the number of 5 and 51 species respectively but the were rarely observed in July when the number of pr= edator was only 1 species and prey only 16 species. However, in this area the immigration of bird predators were observed in January, August and December while the bird of preys were found in January to March, June and September = to December.

        = From 106 species of predators and prey observed 98 species, 32 famil= ies and 11 orders of birds were grouped while 8 species, 6 families and 6 order= s of mammals were classified.

        = The results of study seem to concluded th= at the environmental condition of dry dipterocarp forest play direct effects on bo= th species and number of predator and prey species. Predators seem to increase when preys increase. Predators are expected to have no influence in control= ling both the species and number of preys in this study area.<= /p>
