TISTR 40th Anniversary TISTR organized the TISTR 40th anniversary exhibition between May 29–June 1, 2003 at Grand Diamond Ballroom, Impact, Muang Thong Thani. At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn proceeded as the president of the ceremony. As for this occasion, Mr. Pinij Jarusombat, Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, presented 30 Vacuum Sealer & Gas Injection machines to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
During the exhibition, many innovations of TISTR such as Small Mobile Alcohol Distillator, Ultrasonic Mist Maker, Hi-tech Vegetable Washing Machine, Lime Cleaning Machine, Lime Extractor and Tamarind Juice Separator were displayed to the public. Moreover, other activities such as Science Youth Study Room, Technology Clinics, seminars and training courses were provided as well.
The discover of new species TISTR conducted the research project entitled “Conservation and Germplasm Collection of Thai Magnoliaceae” with the support by the Plant Germplasm Consevation project under the initiated project of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. During the project, a new species was discovered and named “Champi Si Muang Thai” or Magnolia thailandica Noot. & Chalermglin. The name was given in the honour of the country where the new species is habitat. The new species was certified by The Herbarium Leiden of the Netherlands. The discovery was published in BLUMEA international horticulture classification magazine issue no. 44 (November-December 2002). This is the second time TISTR has discovered a new species sinceChampi Sirindhorn was discovered in 2000.
The International and National Award Winning
International Quality Award Thai Packaging Centre (TPC), Thailand Institute of scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) won “The International Arch of Europe Award for Quality and Technology, Diamond Level” from Business Initiative Directions (BID) of Spain. This was the third award that TPC has been received from BID. In 1999, TPC received “International Gold Star Award for Quality, Gold Level” and “International Quality Summit Award for Excellence and Business Prestige, Platinum Level” in 2002. All the awards ensure that TPC has provided services under the international quality standard.
tHE BEST ORGANIZATON FOR YOUTH AWARD TISTR received “The Award of 2003 Best Organization for Youth in the field of Mathematics, Sciences and Computer“ from the Bureau of Welfare Promotion and Protection of Children, Youth, the Disadvantaged Persons with Disabilities and Older Person, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. The award was presented by Princess Bajrakitiyabha on September 20, 2003.
The Mass Media Outstanding Award for Youth “Science and Technology”, the journal published by TISTR, achieved the best academic journal award of 2001-2002 from the National Youth Bureau (NYB). This is the second time of TISTR to achieve the award from NYB since the journal was awarded the consolation prize from NYB in the year 2000-2001.
The Public Relations Outstanding Reward “Sliver conch” TISTR achieved the public relations outstanding reward “Sliver Conch” of 2003 from the Public Relations Society of Thailand and which was presented to TISTR by Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Wissanu Krea-ngam on August 19, 2003. This reward has been given to the outstanding public relations division in many organizations for 20 years continuously.
Satrara Methi Award Dr. Piya Chalermglin, TISTR’s researcher, who discovered Champi Sirindhorn and Champi Si Muang Thai, the new species of the world, achieved the “Satrara Methi Award” from Professor M.L. Pin Malakul Foundation under the Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The award was presented to Dr. Piya Chalermglin by Her Royal Highness PrincessMaha Chakri Sirindhorn on November 10, 2003.
Communities’ organic fertilizer plant Ministry of Science and Technology has assigned TISTR to carry out the technology transfer project to set up organic fertilizer chemical fertilizer and biofertilizer pilot plant in order to stimulate grass roots’ economic. The pilot plant has the production capacity of 3,000 tons per year, using agricultural waste (i.e. manure, chaff, molasses and cassava cake) as raw materials. The setting up of the pilot plants can help increased agriculturist’s income. Nine plants will be set up in Khon Kaen, Loei, Roi Et, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buri Ram, Chiang Mai and Ubon Ratchathani. Recently, the first pilot plant in northeastern region has already been set up at Ban Kambang in Amphoe Non Thai, Nakhon Ratchasima province under the economic stimulating measure and also one of the 9 plants was set up at Ban Hai Sok in Amphoe Phutthaisong, Buri Ram province.
Technology Clinic tiSTR joined Technology Clinic Project organized by Ministry of Science and Technology. The Ministry of Science is the center of technology transfer network where technologies, innovations, research and development were collected. TISTR and other institutes under the Ministry of Science and Technology including 21 education institutes joined in the project to provide consultancy services for local communities, housewives, agriculturists and cooperative organizations in order to stimuulate community economic development and lift up the quality of life. In order to complete this mission, TISTR carried out the task on consultancy services by providing necessary information and conducting training courses on TISTR’s technology transfer. Moreover, TISTR also organized “Technology Clinic Road Show” project in five regions i.e. Bangkok, Khon Kaen, Chon Buri, Songkhla and Chiang Mai provinces. The exchanging of experience on management system and scientific and technological service were provided in the project with the objective of improving product quality to comply with the international standard.
TISTR’s Food Packaging Contest On the occasion of the 40th year anniversary, TISTR organized a food packaging contest for enhancing capability of packaging manufacturers and promotion of products packaging. Thai Packaging Centre (TPC) was assigned to hold the contest on New Prototype Packaging and Ordinary Packaging for three different kind of food production, i.e. processed fruit, herbal powder and herbal tablet. There were four winner prizes and twenty consolation prizes. |
